London ambulance service CASE STUDY

THE SITUATION

The London Ambulance Service identified that insufficient attention had been paid to their information security and it was deemed that a cyber-attack may prevent The Trust from operating effectively.

THE CHALLENGE

Numerous improvements were required and needed to be implemented in an extremely short timeframe. A number of gaps in security infrastructure controls were identified, in addition to issues relating to restrictive services that were not aligned to the Trust’s emerging strategy.

THE SOLUTION

Cognita carried out initial scoping for The London Ambulance Service and mobilised an expert team to improve cyber security posture by providing security oversight on projects to ensure alignment with corporate, legal, and regulatory requirements, security guidelines, customer security requirements, and industry standards.

We have introduced Security gates into projects to provide assurance and reassurance to the board that IT solutions delivered are robust and secure, through the concept of security by design and the testing of solutions prior to release.

The Trust has now achieved the Cyber Essentials accreditation; a baseline which it will look to improve on. Cognita will facilitate this improvement by delivering a new Security Infrastructure for the Cyber Programme. The programme will involve the development of a range of technical cyber management tools.

THE FEEDBACK

“The Cognita InfoSec managed service at LAS NHS has provided valuable and significant contributions to our InfoSec capabilities. In a short time we improved the security posture and have lead the Trust through the Cyber Essentials certification, with a view to obtaining ISO 27001 in the next year. Customer feedback from internal and external stakeholders has been exceptional and recognised on a national level.”
